YUNGBLUD has revealed the deeply personal story behind his track “Zombie,” explaining that it was inspired by his late grandmother, whom he described as “the most glamorous northern woman you’d ever meet.”
According to the singer, his grandmother’s struggle with alcoholism began after the family business collapsed, eventually leading to her passing. The song, he explained, captures her tragic “decline” and the heartbreaking realization that it was too late to turn things around.
He highlighted one of the song’s central lines—“If I talk about the words, they will hurt. So if you ask about the pain, I’ll lie”—which he believes reflects the very words his grandmother once lived by.
YUNGBLUD said he hopes the track resonates with those who feel ugly, powerless, or like a burden, urging them to communicate and share their emotions rather than suffer in silence.
