YUNGBLUD Credits Girlfriend Jesse Jo Stark for Keeping Him Grounded as He Opens Up About Health, Voice Struggles, and a New Chapter in Life

In a candid new interview with Allison Hagendorf, British rock star YUNGBLUD opened up about the personal battles behind the spotlight — from struggling with his weight and vocal recovery to finding balance through love, discipline, and creative growth.

The 27-year-old musician revealed that the past year had been one of deep self-reflection, admitting he had to make serious lifestyle changes to regain both his confidence and his voice.

“I was pushing myself too hard,” he shared. “I wasn’t looking after my body or my voice the way I should have. So I started boxing five days a week and working with a vocal coach to get back to the level I want — to compete with the idols who inspired me.”

YUNGBLUD also credited his girlfriend, singer and designer Jesse Jo Stark, for being his emotional anchor and creative partner throughout this period.

“She’s my earthwire,” he said with affection. “When everything feels chaotic, she keeps me grounded. She’s not just my partner — she’s my best friend and someone who constantly reminds me of who I am.”

The pair have also been working on new creative projects together, which YUNGBLUD described as “a reflection of love, honesty, and chaos — the things that make us who we are.”

As the conversation wrapped up, YUNGBLUD looked ahead to his upcoming Grammy Museum appearance, where he plans to share stories behind his evolution as an artist. Host Allison Hagendorf praised him for “bridging the gap between generations of rock,” calling him “a voice that speaks to both rebellion and vulnerability.”

“For me, this next chapter is about balance,” YUNGBLUD concluded. “Taking care of myself, making honest music, and holding onto the people who make me feel real.”
