Angry NFL fans think the referees “rigged” the Philadelphia Eagles-Detroit Lions ‘Sunday Night Football’ game after A.J. Brown drew a weak penalty call that essentially sealed the deal for the home team.
Trailing 16-9 with 1:51 remaining, the Lions needed a stop on 3rd-and-8 to keep the game alive. Jalen Hurts’ pass to A.J. Brown fell incomplete to seemingly give Detroit some hope, but the officials wound up flagging Rock Ya-Sin for pass interference on Philly’s star receiver.
Not only was the call against Ya-Sin ridiculous, but Brown appeared to get away with blatant offensive PI as well:
Furious fans called out the NFL refs for the brutal call that allowed Philly to bleed the clock and seal the 16-9 victory.
“Eagles and getting bailed out by the refs what else is new,” a fan said.
“If that wasn’t clear evidence of manipulation/rigging, I don’t know what is. @Lions had a chance to win. @Eagles and @Chiefs being propped up by the refs for years,” said another.

“Absolutely FIXED CALL!” a user commented.
“Dude they just straight up fixed the end of this game for the Eagles how is that a PI,” a fan wrote.
“Eagles vs lions was rigged and we just watched it in real time. I might be done with the nfl this year,” another said.
“@NFLOfficiating needs to be fined for the phantom pass interference at the end of the @lions vs @eagles game. NFL is so blatantly rigged it’s crazy,” a user commented.
Another questionable officiating call on Sunday saw Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride get penalized for “unsportsmanlike conduct” after performing the “nose wipe” celebration against the San Francisco 49ers.
But the 49ers won that game 41-22. At least it wasn’t the game-deciding play like the penalty A.J. Brown drew.
