It was 15 years ago when Gilbert Arenas was a Washington Wizards icon in the NBA, however the player had a huge passion for and interest in firearms, with some even being displayed inside the dressing room.

The former player has acknowledged that at home he had near 500 firearms, an arsenal that he accumulated by himself initially, but was bolstered when he bought a large number from the father of an ex-girlfriend.

Arenas claimed he didn’t need a license to have these weapons at his home, he had reinforce the door to the cabinet in which they were in, as well as installing a state of the art security system to prevent theft.

The weapons, which Arenas claims weren’t loaded, were the beginning of the end for his NBA career, with Christmas 2009 being a key date in his downfall.

A game of cards on the team’s plane with JaVale McGee and Javaris Crittenton, two teammates, saw a lot of money being gambled with the latter being the loser.

An argument ensued after the plane landed with Crittenton believing that the debt would be forgotten, although he threatened to shoot Arenas in the knee.

Days after the argument had ended, Arenas put four pistols in his backpack before practice and headed to the Wizard’s facility, before pulling the guns on Crittenton in the dressing room.

“Pick one, didn’t you want to shoot me, well here are the guns to do it, come on, you son of a bitch,” Arenas declared.

“You don’t need to give me any, I already have one here.”

Crittenton would tell a much sorrier tale in the subsequent years, as he was charged with the murder of a 22-year-old mother of four, Jullian Jones, who he shot in the leg.

He is scheduled to be released from prison on December 13, 2036.
