LeBron James gave a much-appreciated update on his son Bronny after he experienced cardiac arrest at a basketball workout with USC.

James didn’t provide details on the surgery he had this summer, but did share that Bronny was recovering well from the incident and he expects his son to play for USC this season.

According to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, LeBron said, “Bronny is doing extremely well. He’s begun his rehab to get back on the floor this season.”

The NBA star added that his son underwent a “successful surgery,” Buha reported.

“We’re happy to see where he is and what his future still has in store for him,” LeBron concluded.

“Definitely a whirlwind and a lot of emotions for our family this summer. But the best thing we have is each other. … We’re happy to see where he is today and we look forward to seeing what his future still has in store for him.”

In July, Bronny was hospitalized after suffering cardiac arrest while practicing with USC. His family later released a statement that said a congenital heart defect was the likely cause and they believed Bronny’s condition could be treated.

While he has not yet rejoined the Trojans, Bronny is on campus taking classes. Exactly when Bronny will return to the court isn’t yet clear.

Bronny is a five-star recruit in the 2023 class and a projected first-round pick in the 2024 NBA draft. He committed to play for the Trojans over offers from Ohio State, Oregon and others in a high-profile recruiting process.
