The Portland boy who was fatally mauled by two dogs in the home of a family friend has been identified and pictured for the first time by family members who are ‘turned upside down’ by his loss.
Loyalty Charles Scott, affectionately known as ‘Mookie,’ died after two Great Dane-mastiff mixes attacked him in the garage of a residence where his grandmother dropped him before school.
‘Our family is completely turned upside down and trying to figure out how to keep going,’ Loyalty’s aunt, Mariah Scott, wrote in a GoFundMe campaign.
‘Loyalty touched so many hearts. He always had a smile on his face and there was no way anyone could be in a bad mood around him.
‘He loved everyone and everything. He was so pure and unaffected by the negatives in the world. He definitely changed my outlook on life and made this world so beautiful!’

On December 5, Portland Fire & Rescue arrived at a house in Parkrose Heights after receiving reports of a possible animal attack.
There, they found a woman covered in blood who said she had entered the garage to take care of her Great Dane-Mastiff mixes when Loyalty opened the door behind her.
The Glenfair Elementary student had been dropped off by his grandmother, Rena Scott, earlier that morning so he could be taken to school.
The woman living in that home, Koko Miller, is a high school classmate of Loyalty’s grandmother. She is the self-professed owner and operator of a company called ‘K-9 Protection.’
Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Mike Benner said Miller ‘did everything she could’ to save Loyalty’s life, even grabbing a gun.
He added that there had never been any calls to police about the animals, but the little boy knew not to go around them, which is why they were in the garage.
Loyalty was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two dogs were euthanized last week. A third dog that was in the home at the time is being held by Multnomah County Animal Services pending further investigation.
Benner says it is ‘way too early’ to determine whether Miller will face criminal charges.

Police say while the six-year-old knew to stay away from the dogs, there had never been any calls to the residence regarding the animals
Loyalty’s aunt, Mariah Scott, set up a GoFundMe to support his grieving grandmother
Rena Scott described her grandson as a ‘beautiful soul’ who was ‘always happy’
Loyalty’s grieving family set up a GoFundMe to support the boy’s grandmother.
‘Rena is the only person that provides for these kids and these babies want for nothing,’ Mariah wrote. ‘She has to work a lot to give them the life she believes they deserve.
‘Also with Christmas looming on the horizon, she’s also got to figure out how to make her 9 other grandkids’ Christmas as special as possible. Right now, all she can focus on is figuring out how to breathe.’
Rena told KOIN 6 that she was ‘devastated.’
‘He was just beautiful. He was just beautiful,’ she said of her grandson. ‘He was a beautiful soul. Always happy.’
The GoFundMe has raised just under $12,000 so far.

The Portland Police Department has offered to pay for the little boy’s funeral expenses
Two counselors from Glenfair Elementary left their own messages commemorating the life of the little boy.
‘Loyalty, we will miss laughing, playing, singing, dancing, and smiling with you,’ wrote Haven Lewis, referring to the boy as ‘a bright light’ with ‘huge and infectious’ energy.
‘We will miss you beyond words. Grandmom, sisters, aunties, family and friends, we are sending you all of our love and we will be here for you always.’
Marissa Yang Bertucci described Loyalty as ‘the funniest, sweetest, most special and charismatic boy.’
‘I am so sorry for your heartbreak, grandma, sisters, auntie, and everyone who loved and continues to love him,’ she wrote, signing off as ‘Miss Marissa.’
The Portland Police Department will pay for the little boy’s funeral expenses, according to his aunt.
