Back in 2022, Cher, then 76 years old, basically broke the internet when she confirmed that she was in a relationship with 36-year-old music executive Alexander Edwards.

After the couple were pictured holding hands in November of that year, the music icon took to her X account to defend their romance. “Haters are Gonna Hate…,” one tweet read. “Doesn’t Matter That We’re Happy & Not Bothering Anyone.”

“He’s 36 & In End He Came after me,Till we met in the middle,” Cher wrote in another post. “He’s Consistent one ,I’m The Skittish one. We love each other…. LADIES NEVER GIVE UP.”
She also teased that she and Alexander kiss “like teenagers,” and later admitted: “On paper this looks strange (even 2 ME),” before sharing her boyfriend’s belief that love “doesn’t know math,” referencing their 40-year age gap.

“I [love] him because he wasn’t afraid,” Cher tweeted at the time. “He’s kind, hilarious, smart, talented, beautiful. We talk & laugh. We r perfectly matched. Do I wsih I was younger, yah, I’m not boo fkn hoo.”
Fast-forward to 2025, and Cher is six and a half months away from her 80th birthday, but her and 39-year-old Alexander’s relationship is seemingly stronger than ever.

During an interview with CBS Mornings, Cher told host Gayle King that she couldn’t be less interested in the discourse surrounding their age gap. When asked about the critics, she said: “Whatever. They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”

Gayle also asked the star if Alexander has ever had a problem with the age difference, and Cher replied: “No [he doesn’t], thank God. He just says: ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger.’”

“We laugh all the time, you know?” she continued. “I just love him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”

Cher also revealed that she has a good relationship with Alexander’s 6-year-old son, Slash, from a previous relationship, sharing: “I used to say: ‘God, give me a toddler and a man,'” noting that she got “exactly” what she asked for.

More generally, 70-year-old Gayle asked Cher how she feels about getting older, saying: “I keep waiting for this grown-up feeling to kick in. And I don’t have any hang-ups about aging. Do you?”
“Yes. I hate it,” Cher replied. “I’m 10 years older than you, babe.”
Cher previously joked that she’d been forced to start dating younger men because they are the only ones left, saying during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show: “The reason I got with younger men is because men my age are older, now they’re all dead. Before, they were all just terrified to approach me, and younger men were the only ones.”
