Former Georgia star Jordan Davis says that playing in the National Championship in college has prepared him to play his part for the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
On Sunday in New Orleans’ Superdome, Davis and the Eagles will take to the field to face the Kansas City Chiefs. It is a rematch of Super Bowl LVIII, where Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to an epic 38-35 victory in Arizona.
Davis had a quarterback hit in the heartbreaking game, which served as a tragic bookend to his rookie campaign in Philadelphia after being selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. But he has continued to develop, and the 25-year-old now forms a fierce defensive line alongside fellow former Bulldogs Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith.
Davis is hoping to avoid falling to the Chiefs once again and bids to depart New Orleans as a Super Bowl champion. He departed college on top after helping Georgia defeat Alabama and clinch its first championship since 1980, so winning is in his DNA. His National Championship experience has him ready to go in Super Bowl LIX.
“I mean, playing in the National Championship helped out tremendously in terms of my development,” Davis exclusively told Irish Star Sports. “Even just understanding how things like the media works can be overwhelming for a player. But we went through this at Georgia. We experienced this at Georgia. They helped us, trained us in this in Georgia.
“So, you know, on the field and off the field, it definitely helped in terms of our development. We’re prepared to play in the biggest games, and the National Championship and Super Bowl are the peak of each sport. But I’m ready.”

When asked to compare Georgia and the Eagles as footballing institutions, Davis kept it succinct: “It’s one and the same. The only thing at Georgia is you’ve got school.”
Davis is ready to play a key role in the Super Bowl. He understands a physical game lies ahead, particularly as he faces off against Chiefs stud center Creed Humphrey, who was recently named a First-Team All-Pro. For Davis, whether Jalen Hurts or Patrick Mahomes hoists the Lombardi Trophy will be decided by the clash up front.
“Definitely in the trenches,” Davis declared when asked where Super Bowl LIX will be won and lost. “I feel like that starts with every football game, not just ours. But definitely in the trenches. It’s just the team that makes the less mistakes, honestly. In these games, it’s going to get tighter and tighter. The team that makes the fewer mistakes is going to end up winning the game, I believe. Hopefully, it will be us.”
