Suns Mount Spectacular Comeback, Erasing 22-Point Deficit in 4th Quarter for Thrilling Victory over Kings

With 1.8 seconds left, Kevin Durant converted two free throws, and the Phoenix Suns pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat the Sacramento Kings 119-117 on Tuesday night.

For the Suns, who fell down 113-96 before closing the game with a 23-4 surge, Grayson Allen scored 29 points and tied a team record with nine 3-pointers. Durant scored 27 points in the end.

For Phoenix, Jusuf Nurkic had 10 points and 15 rebounds, Bradley Beal scored 13 points, and Devin Booker finished with 16 points and 11 assists.

With two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, Durant ignited a rally, cutting the Kings’ lead to as much as 22 points. Afterwards, Eric Gordon nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the score at 115. Coming off the bench, he scored 13 points.

According to ESPN Stats & Information data, the Suns are just the second team in the last 25 seasons to overcome a deficit of 20 points or more within the last 8 minutes of the fourth quarter, following the Kings against the Timberwolves in 2020.

With thirty seconds remaining, Durant’s free throws gave the Suns their first lead since 3-2, putting them ahead 117-115. With 19 seconds remaining, De’Aaron Fox, who had led all scorers with 33 points, knotted the score with a jumper. However, he fouled Durant again as he tried to jump high. The Kings attempted a long last-second shot after his free throws.

Domantas Sabonis finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists to register his 11th triple-double of the year. It was his league-high 36th double-double of the season and his 23rd straight game with double figures in at least two of the categories.

For Sacramento, which has dropped three straight games, Keegan Murray finished with 18 points, Sasha Vezenkov with 14, and Malik Monk with 13 points and eight assists.
