STAYING HOME: Man Utd 0 Bayern Munich 1, the Red Devils were completely eliminated from the Champions League at the bottom of the table and could not even enter the Europa when they suffered a devastating loss to the Germans

ALL NIGHT LONG, THEY TALKED ABOUT ONE OF THE GREATEST LUCKY MUSIC LEAGUE WINNS, which happened almost 25 years ago against this same team.

They sang about how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored in extra time at the Nou Camp in 1999.

It was said that Manchester United had a great team that could win the European Cup even though they were down 1-0 in the last few minutes of a bad game.

But this United team isn’t even close to being great. Their best game was just average, and after six bad wins, they were kicked out of Europe.

It’s no longer the Theater of Dreams; now it looks more like Memory Lane.

Banners of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby hang there, along with songs of Solskjaer and Eric Cantona. There are almost no references to the present team, which is expensive but falling apart like Old Trafford.

There wasn’t a good chance for Erik ten Hag’s team to score on a night when the numbers said they should go all out against Bayern Munich.

The defending champions didn’t need to win, but they did. England captain Harry Kane sent a long pass that caught United off guard and let Kingsley Coman score halfway through the second half.

Based on United’s terrible Premier League season, Old Trafford probably won’t be used for major European events again until at least September 2025.

And because they lost, United won’t even be able to play in the Europa League in the new year.

It’s not like they earned anything after a campaign that was both crɑzy and terrible.

Bayern easily won at Old Trafford, just like Bournemouth did on Saturday and Newcastle, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Brighton did earlier in the season.

People don’t think Ten Hag’s job is in dɑnger right now because they’ve tried so many managers since Ferguson left that there aren’t many good options left.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his shady cycling partner Sir Dave Brailsford will be there soon to try to figure out what’s going on with this boring team and this empty football club.

But not before United play Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday. Liverpool is currently in first place in the league, and the last time these two teams played, Liverpool beɑt United 7-0.

Because Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are hurt, that will be an even bigger job for Ten Hag.

What was clear, though, was that everyone at Old Trafford was resigned or even sleepy. United fans left in droves, long before the game ended, with only shoulder shrugs.

United needed to win this game and hope that Copenhagen and Galatasaray would draw in the other Group A game. But once Coman scored, Ten Hag’s team didn’t care what happened in the Danish city.

Bayern’s fans sang and you know you are” to United’s players as they came out for their warm-up. They did this in perfect Anglo-Saxon.

After looking at how bad this Champions League season had been, it was hard to disagree with their opinion. United had already given up 14 goals and were lucky to still be in the running before this final.

Ten Hag was in even more limbo after Saturday’s 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth.

When Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial got sick, they couldn’t play, so Rasmus Hojlund started and had to play alone all night.

Bayern was already at home after winning Group A a long time ago, but after a shocƙιng 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, they were at full strength here. Their football was quick, fluid, and bright, with Kane often dropping back into midfield to stop United’s advances and lead Bayern’s.

Even though this season has been terrible, there was a mood ready to ҽxplodҽ at Old Trafford. You could feel it when Antony made his rare, ultimately pointless runs down the right, but United’s players never lit the fuse.

Shaw’s long shot was saved by Manuel Neuer, and in a stupιd attempt to get people angry, Alejandro Garnacho pushed Kingsley Coman into the advertising boards behind the Stretford End goal.

It was more like Fernandes was throwing a fit than being a captain. He threw himself to the ground when he lost a heading fιght with Dayot Upamecano.

Many things about him are wrong with this United team. A sense of privilege that is very different from how bad their situation is.

Leroy Sane missed a great volleyed chance, but United were at least keeping Bayern from scoring.

Ten Hag had to make two changes in defense when Harry Maguire pulled up with a groin ιnjury. Jonny Evans came in for Harry Maguire, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka came in for Luke Shaw at halftime.

And Wan-Bissaka quickly gave United their first clear chance when he cut back for Fernandes. The Portuguese player only managed to bother the fans in Row Z.

United was just getting going again when they heard that Copenhagen had taken the lead. Fernandes sent a shot just wide.

Soon, Kane threw the ball to Coman, who made no mistakes. Bayern won their 40th straight Champions League group game without losing.

Since Ferguson left United 11 years ago, they have only played two Champions League knockout games.

Ten Hag’s players were booed off the field at the end of the game, which made things tense.

They might not be able to fιght at this level for a very long time.
