“When a Song Belongs to the World, You Don’t Just Sing It — You Feel It.” g

Italian trio Il Volo left the audience completely spellbound during their spectacular holiday concert at Arena 8888 in Sofia. Known worldwide for their powerful voices and masterful bel canto, the group delivered a two-and-a-half-hour performance filled with festive cheer, iconic hits, and breathtaking orchestral arrangements.

Accompanied by the Plovdiv Opera Symphony Orchestra and a 25-member choir from Italy, Il Volo guided the audience through a magical evening, performing Christmas classics such as Bianco Natale, Tu Scendi dalle Stelle, and Oh Holy Night, as well as their Italian chart-toppers Il Mondo, Caruso, and La Donna è Mobile. Highlights from their latest album, including Capolavoro, and selections of Ennio Morricone film scores were also featured, showcasing their versatility and artistry.

Each member of the trio—Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble—shined in solo performances, from Barone’s moving Ave Maria to Boschetto’s delicate Astro Del Ciel and Ginoble’s powerful rendition of My Way. The globally beloved Hallelujah brought the audience to its feet, but it was their rendition of Ave Maria Mater Misericordia that delivered the crowning moment of the evening.

For the first time on a Bulgarian stage, Il Volo performed You’ll Never Walk Alone, a song they describe as a “hymn of hope” they had long dreamed of singing live. The emotional performance had the audience singing along, creating a moment of pure unity and joy.

Canale 5 of Italy’s national RAI 1 network chose to film the holiday concert in Bulgaria, capturing an unforgettable night where Il Volo once again proved why they are celebrated as one of the world’s most charismatic and gifted vocal groups.

Here’s what to know about “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

Originally written by Rodgers and Hammerstein in 1945 for the musical Carousel, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” was made popular by Gerry and The Pacemakers in 1963, who ostensibly transformed the track into a power ballad.

Over the years, many European soccer teams, like Celtic and Liverpool, have adopted the song as a supporters’ anthem, frequently playing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to drum up excitement throughout the home crowd before matches begin. As Boyle’s masterful performance showed, the strategy often works.
