Real Madrid’s upcoming signing Endrick has suggested a shirt number based on his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid announced in December 2022 that Endrick would join the club in the summer of 2024 after they agreed to meet the player’s €60 million release clause. The Brazilian international will officially join the Spanish Royal team after his 18th birthday and is choosing his shirt number when playing for the Spanish giants.

Not surprisingly, the player born in 2005 chose his shirt number based on his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. Speaking to Placar TV, Endrick stated:

“I don’t care too much about numbers, but my favorite number is 7. It’s the number I use in video games when I play NBA and FIFA. It’s a special number that attracts a lot of people.” attention when I was seven years old, Cristiano Ronaldo was an inspiration and I also really liked NBA star Luka Doncic with the number 77. It was a number that I looked at and found very striking. I played with the number shirt 11, 10, 7… Now I’m number 9 at Palmeiras. It’s also a great number but it always comes with a lot of responsibility.”

Endrick will have to convince Vinicius Junior to switch if he wants to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul by wearing the number 7 shirt as his compatriot has worn that shirt since last season. If he chooses shirt number 9, Endrick will still satisfy his idol Ronaldo’s shirt number in his early years at Real Madrid. Besides, there are also many other superstars at Real Madrid who have worn the number 9 shirt such as Ronaldo De Lima, Karim Benzema, Fernando Morientes and Alfredo di Stefano.

The 17-year-old will continue to play for Palmeiras before moving to Santiago Bernabeu from the 2024-25 season. Only then will fans be able to know Endrick’s choice.
