In the land known as the “Bible Belt”, a giant stone structure suddenly appeared carrying the Devil’s message. It is said to be quietly waiting for… “the End of the World.”

To this day, the true identity of the person who requested its construction remains a secret. Just know that he requested to build a structure that meets detailed requirements including: Tracking the path of the Sun, having an observation position towards the North Star, and being able to withstand the sun. catastrophic disaster.

The only information about this work is clearly shown in the stele placed on the ground, stating the size and explaining the meaning of the engraved images, along with the round holes corresponding to the movement of the Sun and the sun. stars. 

For the past 30 years, this strange structure has been located in the middle of the Bible Belt – the Bible Belt, in the southeastern United States. This is an area with a large concentration of Christians. To them, the words written on the road signs in Georgia are messages from the Devil King.

One afternoon in June 1979, at the stone carving company – Elberton Granite Finishing, a polite man appeared, introducing himself as Robert C. Christian, representing a group of ” good Americans who wanted to build a projects of unusual size and complexity.”

General manager Joe Fendley was so surprised that he left what he was doing when he heard Christian describe what he wanted to order. He not only ordered a type of stone that no one had ever bought before, but also wanted to carve, polish, and assemble it to create a giant astronomical structure.

Christian explains: It serves as both a compass, a calendar, and a clock. He requested that this work be engraved with the instructions he wanted in the eight most common languages ​​in the world, which are English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Hindu, Hebrew and Swahili. It is still necessary to withstand the most devastating disasters, so that those who survive the “great massacre” in the future can rebuild a better civilization.

At that time, Joe Fendley thought that Christian was a crazy person, wanting to immediately eliminate the trouble, so he had to make excuses such as having to have special tools, heavy materials, hiring consultants, etc. You even need to make transactions at the city’s largest bank… But things are not as Fendley thought, Christian agrees immediately without hesitation.

The director of a large bank at that time was Wyatt Martin – Fendley’s close friend, who was the second person to meet Christian. He affirmed: “That is throwing money out the window” . But the customer just shook his head and said: “You don’t understand anything!”

Finally, they came to an agreement: Martin would be the only person to whom Christian’s real name would be revealed, on the condition that he keep it a secret and destroy all records when the project is complete. Money will also be sent from various banks across the country.

Before leaving Elberton, Christian met Fendley again and delivered a box containing a wooden model of the building, along with a detailed description, about more than 10 pages. After that, $10,000 was transferred, construction began immediately in the summer of 1979. 

Nearly a month after construction, Christian wrote a letter requesting the transfer of land use rights and construction to the Elbert County government. Christian’s letters were stamped from different cities each time; there were never two letters from the same place. Therefore, his whereabouts are basically unknown.

The astronomical descriptions for the Guidestones were so complex that Fendley had to ask a famous astronomer at the University of Georgia for help. The 4 outer rocks must be oriented according to the annual path of the Sun. On the middle pillar there are two elements that need to be meticulously adjusted, which is a gap so that the North Star can always be seen, and a gap to see the rising Sun on the winter and summer solstices. The stone on the roof must have a hole 2cm in diameter, so that sunlight can penetrate every noon and fall right in the middle of the central stone.

When the inscriptions were carved, some of Martin’s friends asked in amazement: Why did you dare to carry out the Devil’s work?
