Nicole Kidman’s latest international move appears to be a family affair, as the Oscar-winning actress has officially applied for residency in Portugal, E! News has learned. While her husband Keith Urban’s name was not included on the initial application, sources confirm he plans to join her in pursuing Portuguese residency once his demanding U.S. tour schedule allows.
A source familiar with the situation told E! on July 24 that Keith was unable to attend Nicole’s residency appointment due to his touring commitments, noting, “It is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa. He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.”
Despite the residency applications, insiders stress that Nicole and Keith have no plans to relocate permanently to Europe. “While Nicole and Keith own a home in Portugal, their primary residence will continue to be in Nashville,” the source added.
This is no surprise considering Nicole, 58, and Keith, 57, have long embraced Nashville as their family’s home base. The Big Little Lies star has previously spoken warmly about the importance of raising their two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, in the vibrant Tennessee community.
“My roots are deeply embedded here [in Nashville],” Nicole told People in 2019. “Our house is always full of kids. Sometimes we have eight kids over for dinner after school. I’m so grateful.”
Nicole’s commitment to family life in Nashville is further anchored by her marriage to Keith, which has flourished for nearly two decades. She credits their resilient relationship as a cornerstone for the stable environment they’ve built. “Real love happens not when everything is going well but when things are going badly,” she shared. “It’s when human beings come together, if they’re going to, in a far deeper way. You’re then having to work together, and the ‘together’ is what it’s about.”
While Nicole also shares adult children Isabella, 32, and Connor, 29, with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, her life with Keith and their daughters remains firmly rooted in the Nashville community they’ve called home since Sunday’s birth in 2008.
Though their Portuguese home offers a scenic retreat, it’s clear that Nashville will continue to be the heart of the Kidman-Urban family’s life — blending Hollywood glamour, country music, and the joys of family in one harmonious hometown.
