Max Verstappen Welcomes Baby in the Sweetest Way—Fans Weren’t Ready for This Reveal

Max Verstappen, a four-time Formula 1 World Drivers’ Champion, announced that he and his girlfriend, Brazilian model Kelly Piquet, welcomed their first child together.

On May 2, Verstappen, 27, posted two photos of his baby daughter, Lily, revealing her name in the Instagram caption.

“Welcome to the world, sweet Lily,” he wrote. “Our hearts are fuller than ever — you are our greatest gift. We love you so much.”

The first photo contained a bundled-up Lily grabbing someone’s finger, while the second showed Piquet, 36, holding Lily with Verstappen’s arm around both of them, smiling down at his daughter.

Verstappen’s younger sister, Victoria Verstappen, commented on the post: “Can’t wait to meet.”

While they haven’t shared an official birth date, if Piquet gave birth on May 1, as fans suspect, Lily would have come into the world on the anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s death, a Brazilian F1 driver who died in a race crash in 1994. TODAY.com has reached out to Verstappen to confirm Lily’s date of birth.

The couple announced their happy pregnancy news in December, leaving fans to wonder if their child would come during a race weekend and, if so, how Verstappen would handle it. On May 1, Verstappen skipped the Miami Grand Prix’s Media Day and Verstappen’s team, Red Bull Racing, explained his absence as Piquet preparing to give birth.

However, on the first day of the Miami Grand Prix (which takes place from May 2-4), Verstappen was spotted at the track in Miami.

Verstappen is a Dutch four-time F1 World Drivers’ Champion, making him one of only six drivers to ever win four or more. He has been with Piquet — the son of racing driver Nelson Piquet — since 2020. Piquet also has a daughter, Penelope, with Russian racing driver Daniil Kyvat.

Lily’s birth marks Verstappen’s first biological child, however, he already considers himself as a “bonus dad” to Penelope.
