Madison Beer and her boyfriend were having a fun beach day recently, and it was so fun that her period wanted to show up to join the party. Even though Madison wasn’t mad about her surprise visitor, people on the internet predictably freaked out.

According to the Daily Star, people all over social media started period-shaming Madison, calling the stain disgusting and even going so far as to say Madison wore white on purpose so her period would leak through and she’d get attention. This is messed up.

Periods aren’t gross; they’re a normal human function that no one should be ashamed of. Madison might not have known her period blood had leaked through, or she did and decided to have fun anyway. The point is, periods just aren’t a big deal, so either way, these pH๏τos shouldn’t have gotten any extra attention. Accusing women of attention-grabbing is an age-old shaming tactic, and we are absolutely not here for it, especially when it’s accompanied by a heavy dose of period-based misogyny. Luckily, none of the hate is getting to Madison. She does not care who knows about her period because she gets that it’s not a shameful thing.

“This is so wild that this is a big deal to some people,” Madison wrote. “Girls get their periods. Girls sometimes bleed thru tampons because periods can be extremely unpredictable!! I am not a robot. I am female, I am human and I am proud.”

Preach, Madison! She’s totally right. Her period stain is not a big deal, and her owning it and being proud shows that. Do your thing, Madison, white ʙικιɴι and all.
