A couple from Texas, USA, who aimed to expand their family with just one more baby, ended up welcoming an extraordinary addition to their lives – all-girl quintuplets. Proud parents, Heather Langley, 39, and her partner, Priscilla Rodriguez, 35, had their five daughters – Hadley, Reagan, Zariah, Zylah, and Jocelyn – in August last year through an emergency C-section when Heather was 28 weeks pregnant.
This birth is so rare that the quintuplets are only the second recorded set of all-girl quintuplets in the United States. Heather and Priscilla, together for five years, already had a three-year-old daughter named Sawyer. Their decision to try for one more baby resulted in the unexpected arrival of five.
Heather shares that they discovered the quintuplets at just six weeks into the pregnancy. Initially, doctors identified four gestational sacs, but later they found the fifth one. Despite initial concerns about the complexities and worries of managing five babies, the couple felt special and unique, considering the rarity of their situation.
Heather recounts the moment of finding out about the quintuplets, saying, “I immediately felt scared when we found out there was going to be five because I feared my pregnancy would be worrying and complicated. I was also panicking about how we would take care of five babies and how on earth we would pick and agree on five names, let alone one. However, after the initial shock and the news had sunk in, I realized how special and unique our babies were going to be. It feels like we have won the lottery.”
The COVID-19 pandemic added challenges as Priscilla couldn’t accompany Heather to hospital appointments, and she learned about the quintuplets via text. Despite initial shock and disbelief from friends, the couple felt blessed with the extraordinary situation.
Heather, at 28 weeks, received medication to mature the babies’ brains due to the early delivery expectation. However, this led to early labor, and after two days of attempts to prevent premature birth, an emergency C-section delivered all five babies in just three minutes.
The quintuplets spent the first three months of their lives in the hospital due to their early birth. Heather describes the experience as crazy, hectic, and tiring but wouldn’t have it any other way. Their eldest daughter Sawyer has been amazing with her sisters, even calling them her babies.
The couple, Heather and Priscilla, had professional photos taken by photographer Kristin Water to capture the beauty of their unique family. The photographer expressed excitement about capturing multiples, emphasizing the special bond they share. The parents look forward to watching their girls grow and celebrating their significant milestones.
The babies’ names are Hadley, Reagan, Zariah, Zylah, and Jocelyn. The couple is enjoying being parents to six beautiful daughters, surrounded by love and creating cherished memories.
