Stυппiпgly Large Newborп! Baby Tips the Scales at aп Astoпishiпg 14lbs 1oz Dυriпg Birth

A family’s bundle of joy turned out a little bigger than they had expected. They welcomed a newborn baby named Finnley, who weighed in at a whopping 14lbs and 1oz – seven pounds more than the average baby, fitting into clothes meant for a six-to-nine-month-old.

Parents Cary and Tim Patonai were anticipating a big baby, with doctors predicting a birth weight around 13.8lbs. Mom Cary shared, “He was so big, plus I had almost double the amniotic fluid, so to say I had a big baby belly and that I was absolutely completely uncomfortable isn’t enough. However, I would do it all over again if I had to, to get this blessing.”

Scheduled for a C-section, her surgery was moved forward when her waters broke at a doctor’s appointment, ironically as she stood on the scales to be weighed. Cary exclaimed, “As soon as they pulled him out, they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s huge!’ Everybody was freaking out, like, ‘I’ve never seen a baby that big, I can’t believe it’. So perfect and round in every way. He’s definitely my squishy little honey bear.”

“Finnley was a little celebrity at the hospital. Nurses and doctors were non-stop talking about him. He is quite tall too at 23.75 inches. Due to his size, my family had to run out and buy larger diapers and clothes to dress Finnley. He is so big compared to what they are used to; they had to special order his size 2 diapers because they only carry sizes preemie to newborn and size 1. I wanted him to fit in the clothes we had saved from his other two brothers, but everything we had was entirely too small.” Originally, the couple brought clothes sized for babies between the ages of 0 and 3 months. Finnley is currently wearing sizes that are between 6 and 9 months.

The proud new mom said Finnley’s size made him ‘a little celebrity’ at the hospital, with doctors and nurses talking about him ‘non-stop’. Finnley spent eight days in the neonatal intensive care unit after his birth but has since been sent home to settle in with his family.

Cary said, “There was one point in the NICU that he was with one of four babies, and his weight was their three total altogether, so we were laughing at that.

” Finnley’s older brothers, Devlen, 10, and Everett, 2, were also born via C-section, but they were delivered on schedule, weighing 8.2 pounds and 11.1 pounds, respectively. Finnley took the lead.

The Carys are now enjoying their time as a new family of five. She said, “He is such a good sweet baby.

I am so grateful everything ended on such a great positive side. While Finnley’s birth is certainly an extraordinary one, I want people to hear my story and remember that challenging times don’t last forever. I think it’s important for other people to know there is hope behind all of those closed doors and that they aren’t alone as they are going through their own trying times. Every woman has a different path than the next, some are easier and some are harder. What matters is that we support each other, with love, care and respect.”
