Kirby Smart gets very blunt about what’s more important for Georgia than the SEC Championship right now t

The Georgia Bulldogs are officially locked into the SEC Championship game following a crazy college football Saturday full of upsets.

Who their opponent will be remains to be seen, but it will come down to the winner of the Texas vs. Texas A&M game next Saturday.

This year will mark Georgia’s fourth straight and 12th overall conference championship appearance.

If they win, Georgia will earn itself a first-round bye in the playoffs. But if they lose, then things could get messy and there’s a chance that they could be knocked out.

For now, however, head coach Kirby Smart is more worried about the Bulldogs closing out their regular season with a win over Georgia Tech next Friday in the annual “Clean Old, Fashioned Hate” rivalry game.

“Yeah, I’m worried about Georgia Tech,” Smart said on possibly playing in another conference title game following Georgia’s win over UMass. That’s all I’m thinking about. I could care less about anybody else in the world but my team and how we get ready in six days for Georgia Tech.”

It’s a quick turnaround for Georgia this week since they have one less day to prepare. That means putting UMass to bed “quickly,” Smart said, and getting turning their focus to the Yellow Jackets.

Beating Georgia Tech will be critical for the Bulldogs in order to make sure that the College Football Playoff Committee can’t rule them out of a playoff berth no matter the outcome of the SEC Championship game.

“Yeah, all games are important, right? I mean, it’s a huge game, it’s a rivalry game, it’s the end of the year, it’s inner state, it’s conference,” Smart said. “It’s representing your state, your program, and your conference.”

The rivalry match will be played Between the Hedges at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 29 as Smart and his Bulldogs look to build on their current six-game victory streak and 71-41-5 all-time edge against the Yellow Jackets.
