Kevin Durant, a forward with the Phoenix Suns, keeps moving up the ladder.

In Wednesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Durant overtook Hall of Fame center Shaquille O’Neal with 28,596 points to move up to No. 8 on the NBA’s all-time scoring record.

Durant only needed nine points to win this game. In the third quarter, he achieved the following feat:

Durant was outside the top 10 at the start of the season, but before tonight, he had passed Carmelo Anthony, Elvin Hayes, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Moses Malone.

After Durant overtook Anthony for the No. 9 place in late February, Suns coach Frank Vogel praised Durant as “one of the best to ever do it.” 

He’s one of the greatest scorers the game has ever seen, so it’s truly meaningful for me to be a part of these milestones for him. It’s very amazing to watch him pass the names he is, and I’m glad for him.

As the second overall choice in the 2007 NBA Draft, Durant has won two NBA titles, been selected to the NBA All-Star team thirteen times, and been named a league MVP. 

Durant had an average of 27.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game coming into tonight.
