When Atlas McHugh entered the world, he was an average-sized baby, weighing in at 7lb 14oz. However, it didn’t take long for this little one to embark on an unexpected growth journey, leaving everyone amazed.

Fast forward two months, and Atlas had a surprising growth spurt, turning him into a head-turner. Now, at the tender age of 10 months, this little marvel stands tall at 80cm and weighs a whopping 13kg, donning clothes typically meant for two-year-olds. His mother, 30-year-old Nabille McHugh, finds herself adjusting to his increasing size, even needing extra support when cradling him.

Nabille shares, “Whenever anyone holds him, everyone has something to say about his size – whether it’s their back hurting or their arms struggling, there’s always a comment. Most non-family members comment on my ‘toddler,’ and are shocked when I tell them he is still an infant.”

The challenges extend to Atlas rapidly outgrowing his clothes. Nabille reveals, “He is currently in 24-month clothes, and this is the longest stretch we have gone with this size, but he was never in newborn size.” Fortunately, doctors have reassured Nabille, stating that Atlas’s weight and height align proportionally on the growth chart, with no underlying health concerns despite his overall larger build.

Atlas’s extraordinary size has even propelled him into the virtual spotlight. Nabille posted a video of her baby on TikTok, featuring the catchy tune ‘Big and Chunky’ from Madagascar, causing the video to go viral. The unexpected online attention brought a mix of positive and negative comments.

Nabille reflects on the experience, saying, “Honestly, I was scared. I woke up to so many notifications, friend requests, and emails all over my social media. Every now and then, there are negative and nasty comments about my son or accusing me of bad parenting because of his size.”

Despite the online scrutiny, Nabille remains unfazed and finds humor in some comments. “I get so many people telling me that I used a filter to make him look that big. I think that’s just hilarious.”

Nabille, residing in Denver, discovered her pregnancy with husband Tyler McHugh when she was just three weeks along. While her pregnancy remained stress-free, her bump maintained a normal size, even though Atlas measured two weeks ahead. Despite planning for a natural birth, Nabille underwent a C-section due to her petite stature.

Expressing her love for her son, Nabille acknowledges that Atlas’s large stature takes after his father’s side of the family. She explains, “His large stature definitely comes from dad’s side of the family, my side of the family is short, and my husband’s side is all six foot and up.”

Using her newfound platform, Nabille hopes to change perceptions about baby sizes. She shares, “I would just like to normalize bigger babies. Big babies have always been around but social media hasn’t. Not because a baby is bigger or smaller than average means that they are automatically unhealthy or something is wrong with them. Babies come in all shapes and sizes; I would know since I have two kids – one was tiny and one big.”
