Sunday night sucked. There’s no way to sugar coat it. It was the last chance for Green Bay to notch a win against one of the best teams in the league. Once again a slow start doomed the offense. The shorthanded defense did the best it could but couldn’t come up with the last stop it needed.
If you wanted to take a bright spot (or two) from the game, there were a few. Edgerrin Cooper once again looked like a star. Once the offense woke up it once again looked like it could score on any team in the league.
Regardless, a loss is a loss and it’s on to Chicago.
With one game left in the season before the playoffs start, Green Bay needs to take this opportunity to go in with some momentum. What better team to do that against then the squad you’ve won 11 straight against?
How are things going in Chicago after they finally got their franchise QB? Not only did they get their QB they brought him into the best situation a rookie QB has maybe ever seen.
Oh. Well that checks out given their last two decades of incompetence. If it seems like I’m piling on the Bears as a way to cope with the loss to Minnesota, you would be correct. So let’s keep going for a minute.
Since this wonderful moment, the Bears have lost ten straight. Not only have they lost ten straight, but they’ve also lost to every kind of team in the league. They’ve lost to powerhouses like Detroit and Minnesota. They’ve lost to middling squads like the Cardinals and 49ers. They even dropped a game to the bottom of the barrel New England Patriots.
I mention all of this mostly because it’s funny, but also because this level of ineptitude weirdly makes this game for Green Bay even more important.
It’s a chance for Jordan Love and the offense to find their footing again. It’s a chance to wash the taste of the loss to Minnesota out of their mouths and go into the Wild Card round with real momentum.
Lose though? Lose and you go into a likely matchup against a hot Philadelphia team wondering if this Green Bay squad was simply a product of beating up on lesser teams and getting lucky at the right times.
This is the time for Jordan Love to go off for 300 yards and three touchdowns. This is when you want Rashan Gary and the defensive line to put together a four or five sack game like they did against the Titans or Seattle.
Losing to the Vikings sucked. What Green Bay needs to do now is what they do best. Beat up a broken Chicago Bears team on the way to another playoff run. More than anything I hope that next week we need to decide whether this latest win earns itself a place in The Bears Still Suck HOF.
