Still just a newborn, the old appearance of a boy in Bangladesh has made many people think of an 80-year-old man. The baby’s unusual aging case also surprised the doctors.
The boy’s strange appearance attracted the curiosity of people from neighboring areas to visit.
A Bangladeshi boy is as old as an 80-year-old man.
Right from birth, this baby boy living in Magra district had wrinkled skin and a shriveled, lifeless body. In addition to lifeless eyes, the baby also has hair growing all over his back.
Based on these signs, local doctors diagnosed that the boy had progeria, a disease that causes the child’s body to age faster than normal.
The doctor directly treating him said that the baby’s skin was showing signs of age such as wrinkles and roughness.
Even though his son was not born perfect, Biswajit Patro – the boy’s father – still seemed happy when the family had a new member. Patro said that he and his wife will still accept and love this little son with all their hearts.
Progeria is a rare genetic mutation that causes a child’s body to age many times faster than normal. The disease is also known as Hutchison Gilford Syndrome. It is estimated that only 1 in 4 million children has this disease.
On average, the life expectancy of children with progeria only lasts a maximum of 13 years.
This disease is caused by a genetic defect. When the body produces too much of a mutant protein called progerin, the body will age quickly.
