Georgia Bulldog Gunner Stockton and LSU Tiger Garrett Nussmeier Praise Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed At SEC Media Days
Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed has his redshirt sophomore season on the horizon and set Heisman Trophy-level expectations for himself. LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier is also up there in the Heisman-winning odds. On the flip side of SEC experience, Georgia’s new starting quarterback Gunner Stockton is well-aware of the battles ahead of him.
The three quarterbacks took part in the annual Manny Passing Academy over the summer, and Reed and Stockton shared a room together. During the Bulldogs’ SEC media days time slot, Stockton spoke of the A&M quarterback and the friendship they recently developed.
“He’s an athlete,” Stockton said when describing Reed.
The Aggie is a dual-threat quarterback and opponents know how quick he is; Reed’s considered one of the fastest signal callers in the country as well. When watching his game in 2024, Stockton said his speed is what stood out to him.
Reed’s athleticism wasn’t overlooked by the LSU quarterback either.
“[Reed] is a good football player, and he can make plays with his feet and his arm,โ Nussmeier said, according to TexAgs. โHe is a great person, and I look forward to watching him this year.”
As the upcoming season nears, the Aggies are in the top 15 teams most likely to win the College Football Playoffs. There’s a lot of faith in the A&M program for 2025, especially with Reed growing more comfortable and confident under center. In 2024, he threw for 1,864 yards and 15 touchdowns on 147 completions, and he’s expecting more out of his redshirt sophomore year.
The Aggies and Bulldogs aren’t scheduled to face each other in the 2025 regular season, but Reed and Nussmeier will meet in Week 9.
