Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Sets His Lat Muscles Ablaze: Unleashing an Insane Back-Training Finish”

It seems that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has shared another video from his intense training sessions, this time focusing on how he concludes his back workouts with a set of lat pulldowns using a straight bar.

.

Johnson has been utilizing lat pulldowns as a tool in his back-building repertoire for years. Previously, he would perform alternating half-isometric pulldowns, engaging his core to maintain stability while completing the rep on one side and squeezing the lat on the other. However, lately, he has been implementing a slowed-down approach, emphasizing controlled negatives on each repetition to increase time under tension and achieve maximum eccentric contraction.

In the caption of the Instagram post, Johnson explains that he performs 3 to 4-second negatives with 1 to 2-second squeeze holds at the bottom of the pulldown, pushing the exercise to failure (typically around 8 to 10 reps). It’s worth noting that this focus on eccentric contraction and controlled negatives means he may not be using weights as heavy as he might otherwise.

Johnson emphasizes the importance of controlling your movements to achieve quality reps and effectively target the muscles. He acknowledges that his back is fatigued at this point, prompting him to concentrate on maintaining control throughout the entire range of motion.
