The 50-year-old producer/actor stated on Twitter on Tuesday that Black Adam will not get a sequel anytime soon due to new management at DC Studios (director James Gunn of Guardians of the Galaxy and producer Peter Safran were named as new co-CEOs in October).

On October 21, Johnsonโ€™s passion project debuted at the top of the domestic box office, marking the highest opening weekend of his lead acting career.

โ€œMy passionate friends, I wanted to give you a long-awaited Black Adam update regarding the characterโ€™s future in the new DC Universe,โ€ he started. โ€œI got along with James Gunn, and Black Adam isnโ€™t going to be in their first story chapter. Nevertheless, DC and Seven Bucks have decided to keep investigating the best uses for Black Adam in upcoming DC universe volumes.โ€

โ€œJames and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed,โ€ he said. โ€œI will always support DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG. Itโ€™s the same now. You guys are aware of my thick skin and my honesty, so you can always rely on me to say whatโ€™s on my mind. James and the DC leadership have viewed DCU through a creative perspective in these judgements.

Johnson went on, โ€œI still feel proud of the Black Adam movie,โ€ which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (of Jungle Cruise) and starring Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, and Sarah Shahi.

โ€œIโ€™m really proud of the movie we made for fans all over the world, Black Adam, which is the culmination of 15 years of unrelenting hard work.โ€ I will always be incredibly appreciative, humble, and loving of the response that Black Adam received from the fans. We performed admirably. I love you, thank you, and I will ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOU, doing my best to satisfy and amuse you, to my fervent and loud Black Adam/Super Hero genre fans.โ€

We all need some Teremana now that this month has been so amazing. I hope you and your families have a productive week and a happy holiday season! DJ,โ€ he said in closing.

(Johnson hinted at potential Black Adam sequels by saying he โ€œfought hardโ€ to have the appearance.) Nonetheless, the โ€œsadโ€ news that Cavill, 39, is no longer playing Superman was revealed this month: โ€œAfter being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to [Gunn and Safranโ€™s] hire, this news isnโ€™t the easiest, but thatโ€™s life.โ€

โ€œThe changing of the guard is something that happens,โ€ he wrote, expressing his โ€œrespectโ€ for Gunn and Safranโ€™s choice to not bring him back. I value that. Peter and James need to construct a universe. I send my warmest wishes and the happiest of fortunes to them and everyone else associated with the new universe.โ€

Gunn did, however, tweet that they are amenable to working with Cavill once more, saying, โ€œWeโ€™re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.โ€
