Prince William is โemulatingโ the work of Princess Diana
Royal author Tina Brown discussed Williamโs shared characteristics with his mother in her 2022 book, The Palace Papers.
She reflected on a occasion where the Prince of Wales showed his gentle side.
Brown wrote: โA local charity they diligently support is East Anglia Childrenโs Hospices, where Kate serves as royal patron. At a charity dinner supporting the hospices at Houghton in 2016, the room was divided into small groups to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who chatted to each guest with synchronised informal expertise.โ
One guest, Euan Rellie, reportedly told Brown: โI was struck by how absolutely perfect William and Kate are at making people feel at ease.โ
Prince Williamโs sweet gesture
Brown described how Rellie allegedly witnessed a very special Prince William moment. A moment where he displayed his giving and considerate nature.
โOne of the most generous donors to the hospice charity, an elderly Park Avenue lady who had come over from the United States for the function and was a huge William fan, was stuck in her room feeling unwell and could not come down to join the other guests,โ Brown described.
Consequently, someone had mentioned to William: โItโs a shame our highest-roller donor is too ill to meet you.โ
The prince then reportedly asked if anyone could make a pot of tea and pop some biscuits on a plate. Of course, William wasnโt just going to have the treats sent to the womanโs room.
We all thought, how he learned something from his mum.
William then reportedly knocked on the door of the elderly ladyโs room himself.
He was said to have told her: โI know that you were too ill to come to dinner and I thought Iโd bring you a cup of tea to say thank you very much for supporting the hospices.โ
Clearly, Williamโs move went down very well. Brown continued: โShe was over the moon โ hard not to be. It was a gesture that showed the imagination and empathy of his mother.โ
Williamโs โclassicโ Princess Diana move
โIt was a classic Diana Spencer move, just natural, gentle human kindness and had much more effect than a grand act,โ Rellie said. โWe all thought, how he learned something from his mum.โ

Evidently, this sentiment is shared amongst royal experts.
Author and TV star Gyles Brandreth also said of William in his book Philip The Final Portrait: โI have watched him at close range โ at Highgrove, on the polo field, on the streets and in the crowd. I have seen him with the aristocracy and everyday folk. He is comfortable with both and they are comfortable with him.
โHe shows concern and empathy, in the way Diana did but without those touches of self-consciousness and self-absorption that her manner sometimes suggested.โ
These days, we often seen William stepping out to support those in need.
Just yesterday, himself and Kate visited those in Southport affected by the devastating 2024 stabbings, where three young girls died.
Although a bittersweet day, William and Kate looked to fulfil their duty with grace โ chatting with family and friends of those no longer with us as well as visiting local schools.
