A couple of weekends ago, the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Texas Longhorns in the SEC Championship Game to secure a bye in the College Football Playoff and the No. 2 seed.
Just before halftime, quarterback Carson Beck suffered a UCL injury in his right throwing elbow that removed him from nearly the rest of the contest. The senior quarterback from Jacksonville, Fla., returned for the final play in overtime, where running back Trevor Etienne scored the game-winning touchdown.
Now, as the first round of the CFP inches closer, Beck and the Bulldogs have received some disappointing news.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Beck has been ruled out for Georgia’s quarterfinal game (Sugar Bowl), which is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2025, against the winner of the Notre Dame-Indiana contest.
“NEW: Georgia QB Carson Beck is expected to miss the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, Pete Nakos reports,” On3 wrote on X. “Beck has not been with the team since it returned to practice and workouts late last week.”
Beck has also not been with the team since they began practicing last week to prepare for the first 12-team playoff. Per On3’s DawgsHQ, the quarterback was not a participant once again on Thursday.
A timetable for Beck’s return is still unclear, leaving a possibility that he will miss more time following the quarterfinals. He is seeking other opinions on his injury as well.

Beck has had a solid season, leading Georgia to an 11-2 overall record and 6-2 in SEC play. He has completed 290-of-448 passes for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Georgia will find out who it will face in the Sugar Bowl on Friday night.
