Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck is near the top of NFL draft boards, and the senior could make a push for an early-round selection with a strong finish to the 2024 season.
A former four-star recruit out of Jacksonville, Florida, Beck waited his turn in Athens behind two-time national champion Stetson Bennett. Despite the opportunity to transfer for a starting role, Beck stuck to his plan and has impressed over his first season-and-a-half as the starter.
Beck (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) finished third in the country in passing yards (3,941) behind eventual first-round picks Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix in his first season at the helm of the Bulldogs’ offense. He decided to forgo an opportunity at the NFL to return to Georgia after falling short of the College Football Playoff.
Beck’s performance through seven games this season has been inconsistent at times. On one hand, he is on pace to top his passing mark set last year. However, Beck has already thrown eight interceptions after throwing six in 14 games last season.
There’s clearly more work to be done by Beck, but his talent will be sought after by NFL teams looking to make a change at the position. The question is which franchise will take that chance.
According to CBS Sports’ latest 2025 NFL mock draft, Beck is projected to serve as a replacement to an overpaid starter in the NFC East.
CBS Sports projects Beck to land to the New York Giants at No. 9 overall, seemingly putting an end to a drawn out experiment with former No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones.
Jones, a former Duke Blue Devil, signed a four-year, $160 million extension with New York in 2023. After returning from an ACL tear that season, Jones has not lived up to his lofty deal.
He is completing 62.5% of his passes for 1,442 yards with six touchdowns and four interceptions. The Giants rank 28th in total offense and 19th in passing offense through a 2-5 start.
“Giants fans are fed up with Daniel Jones,” Josh Edwards wrote. “Carson Beck’s play this season has been more Derek Carr than it has been C.J. Stroud, but he has stepped up in big moments for the Bulldogs. Can the offensive line hold up long enough to give Beck a chance?”
Beck’s inconsistency has not reared its head in Georgia’s biggest moments. Backed up to their own 11-yard line, Beck engineered an 11-play, 89-yard touchdown drive against a No.-1 ranked Texas defense to put the game away last week.
Beck still has plenty of time to make or break his draft stock as the No. 2 Bulldogs attempt to navigate one of the nation’s toughest schedules. Georgia is off this week before taking on rival Florida in Beck’s hometown on Nov. 2.
