Bruce Springsteen opens up about wife’s cancer battle: ‘It’s a tough disease’

It has been about a month since Patti Scialfa, the wife of Bruce Springsteen and a musician herself, shared the heartbreaking news that she was battling cancer.

And now we have an update, and it comes from Springsteen himself.

The legendary rocker recently took part in a special with Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos, called “Bruce Springsteen: Backstage and Backstreets,” that is set to air on Oct. 20 on ABC, per Parade Magazine.

Springsteen opened up about Scialfa’s fight during that interview.

“She’s doing good,” Springsteen said in a preview clip for the special. “We caught it early which is important.

“It’s a tough disease,” he added. “It’s very fatiguing.”

Stephanopoulos asked Springsteen why they chose to reveal her battle now.

“She hadn’t played in the band in a very long time, and I don’t think people knew why,” he said. “‘Where’s Patti?’”

Scialfa has been a part of the E Street Band since 1984. She revealed that she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2018.

She revealed her diagnosis in “Road Diary: Burce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” a documentary recently released by the singer.

“Touring has become a challenge for me,” she said per Parade Magazine. “This affects my immune system, so I just have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go.

“Every once in a while, I come to a show or two and I can sing a few songs onstage, and that’s been a treat.”
