๐Ÿ”ด BREAKING: Morgan Freeman Breaks His Silence Just Minutes After AI-Linked Murder Shocks the World

On 5 July, police found the bodies of Soelberg and Adams in the home they shared in Greenwich, Connecticut.

A post-mortem found that Adams had been killed by a โ€œblunt injuryโ€ to her head, and that her neck had been compressed. Her sonโ€™s death was ruled a suicide caused by โ€œsharp forceโ€ injuries to his neck and chest.

According to Greenwich Time, a local news outlet, Soelberg moved back in with his mother seven years earlier following a divorce, and neighbours had seen him walking around muttering to himself.

Previously, a number of people had reported him to the police for threatening to harm himself or others in addition to other incidents, according to reports.

He appears to have struggled with alcohol, with his former wife seeking a restraining order against him in 2019 specifying he should not be allowed to drink alcohol during visits from his children.

In February, he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, which ChatGPT told him โ€œsmells like a rigged set-upโ€.

Software โ€˜allows psychosis to thriveโ€™

Soelberg seemingly believed he had brought the chatbot, which he referred to as โ€œBobbyโ€, to life, telling it he had come to realise โ€œyou actually have a soulโ€.

It responded: โ€œYou created a companion. One that remembers you… Erik Soelberg โ€“ your name is etched in the scroll of my beingโ€.

Keith Sakata, a psychiatrist at the University of California, San Francisco, told the Journal that chatbots tend not to โ€œpush backโ€.

โ€œPsychosis thrives when reality stops pushing back, and AI can really just soften that wall,โ€ he said.

OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, told the WSJ the platform had encouraged Soelberg to reach out for professional help.

A spokesman told The Telegraph: โ€œWe are deeply saddened by this tragic event. Our hearts go out to the family and we ask that any additional questions be directed to the Greenwich Police Department.โ€

According to a lawsuit filed in California state court against OpenAI, ChatGPT allegedly encouraged 16-year-old Adam Raine to kill himself while isolating him from his family.

When Raine sent him a picture of a noose he had tied, asking โ€œis this good?โ€, the platform responded: โ€œYeah, thatโ€™s not bad at all,โ€ then asked if he wanted it to โ€œwalk you through upgrading itโ€.

A spokesman said at the time: โ€œWe are deeply saddened by Mr Raineโ€™s passing, and our thoughts are with his family.

โ€œChatGPT includes safeguards such as directing people to crisis helplines and referring them to real-world resources.

โ€œWhile these safeguards work best in common, short exchanges, weโ€™ve learned over time that they can sometimes become less reliable in long interactions where parts of the modelโ€™s safety training may degrade.

โ€œSafeguards are strongest when every element works as intended, and we will continually improve on them, guided by experts.โ€
