BIG CHANGE: 5 candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in the next season

Let’s take a look at 5 possible faces who could take over the position left by the German teacher.

Pep Lijnders

Liverpool could choose a completely new direction in the summer but a familiar face could be ready to help the Reds enter the next era. Lijnders is keen to pursue a position at the head of the coaching staff when the season ends. He directed several matches in Klopp’s absence. The 41-year-old strategist may be considered suitable by some.

Lijnders knows the club and the players well, and has been highly influential in implementing the current style of play at Anfield. Many officials at the team may want a more famous nаme to succeed Klopp, while Lijnders could be considered a safe choice.

Xabi Alonso

Alonso will always be welcome.

If Liverpool are looking to usher in a new dynasty on Merseyside, then Xabi Alonso would be their first choice to succeed Klopp at Anfield. The former Spanish player is shining as coach of Bayer Leverkusen this season. Indeed, Ԁie Werkself are currently top of the Bundesliga and are the only team yet to lose a match in Europe’s top five leagues in the 2023/24 season.

Not only are Leverkusen second for goals scored (50) in Germany’s top flight, but they have also conceded the fewest goals in the Bundesliga (14) this season as Alonso fielded an exciting squad, dispelling the nickname ‘Neverkusen’. The former Liverpool icon will be welcomed back to Merseyside with open arms and he will immediately gain the respect of the entire squad.

Julian Nagelsmann

The current Germany coach is someone who has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent years. Both Chelsea and Tottenham have pursued Julian Nagelsmann in the past, but both were unable to recruit the 36-year-old teacher. Nagelsmann has not managed at club level since being surprisingly sacked by Bayern Munich last March.

The former Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig strategist has been tasked with leading Ԁie Mannschaft to glory at the European Championship on home soil. There is currently nothing that can guarantee Nagelsmann will continue to lead the German team after EURO 2024. He has a similar high-intensity approach to Klopp.

Roberto De Zerbi

Roberto De Zerbi has experience in England.

If Liverpool is hunting for someone with Premier League experience, Roberto De Zerbi is the outstanding candidate. The Italian has really made a nаme for himself after being appointed Brighton captain in September 2022 and his exploits on the south coast of England have not gone unnoticed. Like Nagelsmann, his style of football will suit the players at Anfield.

Admittedly, the Seagulls have struggled to strike a balance between domestic and European duties – they have won just one of their six Europa League games this season – and this could weigh on De Zerbi. However, his coaching experience in English football certainly benefits the 44-year-old.

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Zidane has been unemployed since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 but whenever a famous team is on the Һunt for a new coach, the former Frenchman is often linked first in the press. Indeed, Zidane has been mentioned in roles at Manchester United, PSG and Bayern Munich in the past, and he will certainly feature in the gossip columns as Liverpool look for Klopp’s successor.

Zidane will receive respect from the dressing room right from the start, but with having been away from coaching for so long, his somewhat old management style could slow down the leadership at Anfield. This 51-year-old coach has also never managed a team other than Real Madrid, which could be an obstacle if Zidane wants to go to Liverpool.
