Beyonce has announced that she will be donating $500,000 to cosmetology schools and salons through a fund established as a joint venture between her nonprofit organization, BeyGOOD, and her new haircare brand, Cecred.
The news about the 42-year-old hitmaker’s charitable efforts was revealed on Tuesday, when it was announced that the money would be distributed through the newly-established Cecred x BeyGOOD Fund.
The performer – who recently opened up about getting a bold pixie cut in 2013 – also released an official statement about the reasoning behind her new venture.
According to the statement, the Cecred x BeyGOOD fund ‘celebrates the influence professional stylists have on hair health and the critical importance of advocating for the salon community.’
The Grammy Award-winning songwriter will be ‘fostering talent, promoting professionalism, and supporting entrepreneurship within the hair industry’ through her involvement.

Another part of of the statement explained why those involved with cosmetology schools and independent salons had been selected to benefit from the fund.
‘Hairstylists have an immense impact on the people in their chairs. They create a sacred space where we can show up how we want and express ourselves through our hair. We’re honored to give back to this amazing community,’ it read.
A total of $250,000 will be given out through student scholarships at cosmetology schools in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston and Clemonton, New Jersey through the fund.
The remaining $250,000 is set to be distributed to independent salon owners in the same cities.
Prospective beneficiaries of the fund are required to submit an application for consideration.
Five small-business grants will be given out five times a year on a rolling basis in the aforementioned cities.
Beyonce initially teased that she was planning Cecred this past May by sharing a post on her Instagram account.
The performer made an official announcement about her new venture earlier this month, which was also shared on her Instagram.

The songwriter’s mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, who ran a salon in Houston during the hitmaker’s early years, served as an inspiration for the company.
Beyonce spoke about Cecred during a new interview with Essence, where she described her entry into the haircare industry as a ‘full-circle moment.’
The Drunk In Love singer then revealed how she came up with the name of her brand.
‘From my mother’s salon, daily rituals with my father, and years of experience in developing a hair care line, the journey has been just that: Cecred,’ she said.
