Gal Gadot brought the comic book character, Wonder Woman to life in 2016โs Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Her massive popularity led her to explore her arc in her first solo movie in DCEU with the same name as her character. As the movie garnered a major positive response, its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 was released in 2020. However, it garnered mixed critical response with one scene creating quite an uproar among fans involving her on-screen love interest, Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine). While the movie revolves around the duo, one scene involves Diana Prince getting physical with Trevor.
However, this didnโt seem right among the fandom as he already died at the end of the first movie. However, the duo getting physical in the 2020 film is quite bizarre due to another valid reason.
Chris Pineโs Steve Trevor Possessed Another Manโs Body Without Consent in WW84
Chris Pineโs Steve Trevor reappearing out of thin air in Wonder Woman 1984 was itself a bizarre plot given that the character was sacrificed in the first movie, Wonder Woman. In the 2020 film, Gal Gadotโs Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman silently wishes for her loverโs return through the Dreamstone [an artifact that grants the holder one wish but comes with a price].
While she doesnโt expect it to come true, she reunites with her beau however in reality, Trevor returns to the world by possessing the body of another man (played by Kristoffer Polaha).
While Trevor convinces his girlfriend of his identity, others who see the guy are only able to see the face of a real person whom Pineโs character possesses. Given that the character didnโt get consent before taking over his body, it made things worse.
Gal Gadotโs Intimate Scene With Chris Pine in WW84 Created Quite an Uproar!
However, the movie implied that the duo never engaged in s*x. Even director, Patty Jenkins addressed the controversy back at the time, offering two defenses for Trevorโs return. The first one was to pay homage to 1980s body-swap movies such as Big.
As for the second reason, Diana Prince renounced her wish, which ultimately meant that their intimate moment never happened. Steveโs story concludes with Diana realizing she had to bid her farewell to her beau. While their farewell scene is quite abrupt, the audience hears Dianaโs beau shouting โI love youโ as the lady leaves the scene first.
Wonder Woman 1984 is available to watch via streaming on HBO Max.
