Tennessee Vols Football: National media outlet makes early prediction for 2025 College Football Playoff
If the Tennessee Vols need some extra bulletin board material for the offseason, they received it this week from 247Sports.
The national sports media outlet revealed their early 2025 College Football Playoff predictions this week and they don’t have the Vols making the 12-team playoff next season.
Here’s who they have reaching the College Football Playoff in 2025:
1. Ohio State
2. Texas
3. Clemson
4. UNLV
5. Oregon
6. Notre Dame
7. LSU
8. Penn State
9. Georgia
10. Miami
11. Michigan
12. Kansas State
From 247Sports: The teams with the most talent — and favorable schedules — during the 2025 season have the most direct path to a playoff berth, as does squads who rectify personnel losses with transfer portal acquisitions. We’re projecting another first-time playoff participant, too.
It’s obviously far too early to know how the playoff might look next fall, though it’s fair to assume that several of the usual suspects (Ohio State, Texas, Georgia) will be among the 12 teams that will be competing for a championship late next year.
However, it’s always interesting to get an early idea of which teams the national media thinks will be in the mix.
When it comes to the Vols, they will certainly be one of the teams that have a legitimate chance to reach the playoff. But it could be a more daunting task for Tennessee than it was in 2024.
We saw this season that a program from the SEC likely needs to go 10-2 in the regular season to reach the playoff. That means the Vols need to win at least one of these three games: at Florida, at Alabama, vs Georgia.
If the Vols win one of those three games, they would need to win the rest of the games on their schedule, which includes a season-opener against a solid Syracuse team (in Atlanta), a home game against Oklahoma, and a trip to Lexington to play Kentucky.
It’s more than doable for the Vols, but it will undoubtedly be a challenge.
