Player That Kirby Smart Called An ‘Idiot’ Enters Transfer Portal…

Thousands of players have entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal since it officially opened on Dec. 9.

However, of those thousands of players, there is only one that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart has publicly called an “idiot.” A moment this season that caused some major headlines, and one that he eventually revealed he regretted.

The player in question was former Alabama and now-former Georgia safety,. The former four-star recruit out of Buford, Georgia spent his first two seasons of college football in Tuscaloosa, before transferring to Georgia this season. Despite having a minuscule role and not recording any stats this year, he made unfortunate headlines after Georgia’s Week 11 loss at Ole Miss.

Pope was recorded celebrating with Ole Miss fans who stormed the field, and were later revealed to be the family of his high school teammate and Rebels offensive lineman, Reece McIntyre. A moment that led to Smart calling him an idiot after the game.

“What an idiot. Just stupid,” Kirby Smart said about Pope. “I didn’t see it until today. He’s embarrassed about it. He’s upset about it. That’s obviously a childhood friend of his, they grew up and played with at Buford. Hadn’t seen him in forever. Just not real smart. But to be honest, I don’t have time to waste energy on that. You know what I’m saying? My focus is on Tennessee. I’m not real worried on that.”
