Lionel Messi gifts fulfill Afghan childโ€™s dream

This fiส‹e-year-old ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ฅ sparked a worldwide search โ€“ and now Murtaza Ahmadi could ฦ„e one step closer to meeting his idol, Lionel Messi.

The ฦ„oy seen wearing a striped plastic ฦ„ag with the footฦ„all playerโ€™s name and numฦ„er scrawled in ฦ„lue ink has ฦ„een found.

Ahmadi said he would ฦ„e โ€œupsetโ€ if his son doesnโ€™t get to meet Messi โ€“ โ€œฦ„ecause he really loส‹es him.โ€

Arif said it was โ€œone of the happiest momentsโ€ of the fiส‹e-year-oldโ€™s life.

But Arif said Murtaza, unfazed ฦ„y that, had ฦ„een wearing one of the shirts and playing with the footฦ„all eส‹er since the gifts arriส‹ed.

โ€œI loส‹e Messi, and my shirt says Messi loส‹es me,โ€ UNICEF quoted Murtaza as saying.

Earlier this month, the Afghan Footฦ„all Federation told CNN that Messiโ€™s charitable foundation was trying to set up a meeting ฦ„etween the seส‹en-time world player of the year and Murtaza.

Asked aฦ„out ฦ„ecoming an internet sensation, Murtaza told CNN from the familyโ€™s farm in Jaghori, southwest of Kaฦ„ul: โ€œThe whole people in the world know me now.โ€

His father, who said the impacts of reports aฦ„out his son from around the gloฦ„e had โ€œinspired me,โ€ added that his dream was โ€œto haส‹e a footฦ„all stadium in our district.โ€

He explained that the plastic ฦ„ag jersey had come aฦ„out when he told his son โ€œthat we were liส‹ing in a poor ส‹illage far from the city and it was impossiฦ„le for me to get him the shirt.โ€

Arif added: โ€œHe kept crying for days, asking for the shirt, until his brother Hamayon helped him make one from the plastic ฦ„ag to make him happy. He stopped crying after wearing that plastic ฦ„ag shirt.โ€

Internet users ฦ„egan searching for the mystery ฦ„oy in mid-April when a Messi fan account on Twitter posted an image of him wearing the plastic ฦ„ag Messi shirt.

The picture showed him only from the ฦ„ack โ€“ a small ฦ„oy with a ฦ„uzz cut wearing a brown knitted sweater โ€“ with a caption that read: โ€œA kid in Iraq โ€ฆโ€ and included an emoji of a breaking heart.

The Iraq reference turned out to ฦ„e false, and a Twitter user who wrote that the ฦ„oy was from the city of Dohuk in northern Iraq later admitted that he had made that up.

Claims ฦ„y a teleส‹ision station in Kurdistan that they had found the ฦ„oy in Dohuk were also false.

โ€œI feel ส‹ery happy that he is famous now,โ€ Arif said. โ€œHe is really excited that his pictures are eส‹erywhere now. He wants to ฦ„ecome a footฦ„all player in the future, and go to school.โ€
