Relations are famously tense between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Prince William and Kate Middleton but once upon a time the two couples got on like a house on fireMeghan Markle’s now-defunct blog The Tig addressed Kate Middleton all the way back in 2014, two years before Meghan met with Prince Harry (Image: Getty Images)
In the early days of Meghan Markle joining the Royal Family, Kate Middleton made an effort to take Meghan under her wing, however since then, their relationship has soured.
The royal row is said to have come to a head when after the couple’s infamous Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, a year after their sensational exit from the Royal Family and peaked after their highly controversial docuseries on Netflix. The couple made a series of bombshell claims about William and Kate. These claims have never been addressed by the Firm. Throwing another dagger, in Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, he gave his side of the story about his wife’s relationship with Kate and revealed private details about a falling out between her and Meghan. He said Kate allegedly ‘grimaced’ when Meghan borrowed her lipgloss and how the women had a disagreement after the Duchess of Sussex said William’s wife had “baby brain” after Prince Louis was born.

The first rift between Kate and Meghan came in 2019, with claims that Meghan made Princess Kate cry before her wedding to Prince Harry the year before. But two years later the claim was disputed by the duchess who said it was the other way around. However, Meghan’s had opinions about the royal family and specifically about Kate Middleton before she was around the royal family.
Meghan Markle’s now-defunct blog The Tig addressed Kate Middleton all the way back in 2014, two years before Meghan met with Prince Harry. Meghan spoke about interviewing Princess Alia Al-Senussi, who is a member of Libyan royalty and said: “Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.”

She talked about Kate Middleton retaining her fantasy of being a Princess by adding: “Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate.” More recently there is not believed to have been much communication between Meghan and Harry and William and Kate, except for earlier this year, after Princess Kate announced her shock cancer diagnosis in March. Harry and Meghan quickly released a statement following Kate’s announcement. It read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”
