Tom Holland has claimed he ‘never’ wants to take on another dark role like the one he does in new film Cherry, saying he doesn’t want to ‘abuse’ his body again.
The Spider-Man star, 24, reflected on the gruelling fitness regime and diet he had to do in order to transform into heroin addict, and army medic, Cherry in a new interview for British GQ’s April issue on Friday.
Of how taxing it was to portray his character, he said: ‘Have you ever taken heroin before? Because I have not.
‘It took me to some of the darkest places I have ever been’: Tom Holland said in a new interview on Friday that he will NEVER do another dark film like Cherry
‘I couldnโt sit there on set and inject heroin into my chest – thatโs not how it is done. I had to get it right.
‘This role took me to some of the darkest places I have ever been, emotionally, physically, anythingly…I would never go back there again, not for anyone.’
Tom added that while he was ‘pleased’ with the role, he felt ‘that door is now closed and locked’, and he is keen to not star in another dark film.
The actor also reflected on the gruelling physical transformation he went through to become Cherry, as he went on: ‘I lost around 27lbs by running in a bin bag every day.

‘It was awful. Truly. It was only about ten weeks out of shooting that I realised what I was getting into and what I need to do to transform into the role.
‘So I sat down with my trainer, George Ashwell, and he told me, “Right, you need to eat only 500 calories a day and run ten miles. Go.” Great. It was brutal.
‘And then bulking up, going from a drug addict to shooting scenes as a marine? I got very sick, actually.
Thoughts: Tom said of the role, ‘This role took me to some of the darkest places I have ever been, emotionally, physically, anythingly…I would never go back there again, not for anyone’
‘And itโs changed my relationship with food completely. I think I would find it very difficult to find a role that would warrant that sort of abuse on my body again.’
Tom also went on to discuss his role as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and admitted that since filming his third film No Way Home he has now fulfilled his contract and has yet to be given another one.
Asked if it was his final Spider-Man film, he said: ‘I hope not, but I donโt have another contract – yet. As I was cast as Spider-Man six years ago, I have always had the contract there as a safety net.

‘I would never need to worry as, next year, I always had another Spider-Man film – but not any more. Iโm just looking at my phone waiting for it to ring with a new contract.’
Tom added that he would ‘100 per cent’ say yes to reprising the role of Parker in a new series of films, but he feels he could only do it alongside director Jon Watts and co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.
Zendaya, who plays MJ in the superhero flicks, has been a great help to Tom and has advised him on how to navigate fan interest now he’s a celebrity.

He explained: ‘I used to come across sometimes as a bit of a d**k to fans, mainly as I was always so surprised that theyโd want a picture with me or signature or whatever.
‘I’d have the typical Londoner reaction, one of instant suspicion: “Why are you talking to me?” Zendaya spotted this and quickly told me that this sort of reaction was going to be more aggro than just smiling and taking the picture.
‘She totally changed the way I am able to be more comfortable in public.’
