Shakira Delivers Inspirational Message of Empowerment and Hope in Woman of the Year Acceptance Speech
The talented artist from Barranquilla is constantly on the move. Despite all the attention from the media following her split with Gerard Piqué (the current head of the Kings League), Shakira didn’t let it get her down. Instead, she took charge and dropped one of the hottest tracks of 2023 in collaboration with Bizarrap. The result? Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53 became a viral sensation.
Once again, the artist stood out as the focal point at the inaugural Latin Women in Music gala. The highlight? Her impactful address upon receiving the Woman of the Year accolade at the Billboard awards ceremony.
In front of the Miami audience, she began by expressing her gratitude towards her mother, Nidia del Carmen Ripoll: “Despite the challenges you’ve faced this year, you remain strong, filled with love and resilience. To me, mom, you are truly the woman of the year.”
The singer also discussed women and the importance of self-care, stating, “We are stronger and more independent than we realize. How many of us have neglected ourselves in search of validation or approval from others? I know I have, more than once.”
During her speech, she mentioned that every woman eventually reaches a point where she no longer relies on others for validation. Instead of seeking approval from others, women begin to focus on discovering and accepting themselves. The pursuit of perfection is eventually replaced by the importance of being true to oneself.
She then shared a powerful statement that gained popularity online, linking it to Pique’s rumored infidelity with Clara Chia: “The key isn’t whether someone stays faithful to you or not, but rather if you stay true to yourself.”
Shakira expressed how music played a crucial role in helping her through difficult times, stating, “Music guided me back to myself when I was feeling lost. However, the most valuable lessons I’ve learned were from other women, inspiring me to write and sing from the heart.” This reflection came as Shakira made her first public appearance since her permanent move from Barcelona to Miami with her sons, Sasha and Milan, in early April.
