‘He looks broken’: Will Smith pleads with wife Jada stop talking about their marriage on Instagram in old resurfaced clip after Oscars slap drama

An old clip of Will Smith begging his wife Jada to stop putting their marriage drama on blast in public has resurfaced in the wake of the Oscars slap drama.

The clip, which is less than a minute long, is from an Instagram Live from 2019 where Jada ambushes her husband to answer questions about their troubled relationship.

Jada makes Will visibly uncomfortable in the video, which has been making the rounds on Reddit, as she asks him about ‘redefining’ their marriage in an effort to drum up viewers for an episode of Red Table Talk.

‘You know Esther Perel is coming to the table, she’s gonna be at the Red Table,’ Jada says from behind the camera. ‘Would you say she has been instrumental in you and I redefining our relationship?’

No doubt realizing the video is feeding out live, Will appears defeated and responds: ‘I would say don’t just start filming me without asking me.’

Jada seemingly ignores her husband’s request and writes off his discomfort by turning the camera on herself and saying she is ‘still dealing with foolishness.’

Not backing down, Jada persists: ‘Would you say that she helped us heal the hurts that we caused between one another?’

The whole exchange is cringeworthy which gets even worse when it’s clear Smith swallows down what he really wants to say and then attempts to, as diplomatically as possible, extract himself from the live video.

‘My social media presence is my bread and butter. So you can’t just use me for social media. Don’t just start rolling, I’m standing in my house. Don’t start rolling,’ he says.

‘Please watch Esther at the Red Table because she’s helped us a lot,’ Jada says to the camera. ‘Can’t you tell?’

Redditors were quick to note just how ‘uncomfortable’ the actor seems in the clip.

‘My social media presence is my bread and butter. So you can’t just use me for social media. Don’t just start rolling, I’m standing in my house. Don’t start rolling,’ he says.

Terrible: The awkward exchange from a 2019 Instagram Live has viewers branding Jada an ‘abuser’ who doesn’t ‘respect’ her husband

‘He looks hella anxious, like he knows Jada is trying to provoke him and he’s afraid of how it will go down,’ one wrote.

Another added: ‘He looks tormented. Ive gone from liking him, to hating him to felling sorry for him in the space of a week.’

‘If she was brazen enough to call his level-headed response ‘foolishness’, I can only cringe at what she said when after she stopped recording,’ penned a third.

Others suggested Jada seemed like an ‘abuser’ and ‘has no respect for him as a person.’

Not stopping: Jada went on shortly after this video was shared in 2019 to discuss her marital woes with Will at length, getting into all the dirty details, while Esther Perel joined Red Table Talk

Will Smith SLAPS Chris Rock at the Oscars over joke about Jada

‘He looks broken,’ one more added. ‘I’m back and forth on the slap thing but damn. She ain’t good for him at all’

Jada went on shortly after this video was shared in 2019 to discuss her marital woes with Will at length, getting into all the dirty details, while Esther Perel joined Red Table Talk.

During the sit-down, Jada and her mother and co-host, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, talked ‘betrayals of the heart’ and ‘infidelity’ during the sit-down.

The resurfaced clip comes as Will is still seeing consequences from is infamous slapping of Chris Rock at the Oscars after the comic made a joke about Jada’s bald head.

Just 40 minutes after the incident, Will won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Richard Williams – father of tennis legends Serena and Venus – in the biopic King Richard.

Will issued a public apology to Chris the next evening – saying that his behavior was ‘unacceptable and inexcusable’.

The star wrote in an Instagram post that he was ’embarrassed’ by his actions, which shocked the ceremony attendees, producers and viewers, and sparked a furious debate that divided both A-listers and spectators alike.

‘Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,’ he wrote.

‘My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

‘I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.’

Will then went on to say sorry to the organizers and the producers of the show.

Chris has not responded to Will’s apology and the comedian has yet to publicly comment on the incident – however it was revealed in the hours after the slap that he had chosen not to file a police report against the actor.

Several of Smith’s upcoming films have been halted indefinitely due to the slap and a bidding war over the rights to his memoir quickly fizzled out.

On Friday, Will resigned from The Academy calling his actions during the ceremony ‘shocking, painful and inexcusable,’ adding that he would accept any additional consequences issued by the Academy’s Board of Governors.

‘The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home,’ Smith said. ‘I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken.’

He has until next week to formally defend his actions in a written letter to the Academy before the board of governors meet to decide what punishment is deemed appropriate for his assault on the presenter.
