His latest outing comes as the critics savaged his new movie Uncharted, a video game adaptation co-starring Mark Wahlberg.

As the New York Times joked: ‘At least give Sony credit for recycling,’ Rolling Stone added: ‘Youโ€™re better off watching old walkthrough clips.’

Also the Atlantic called the film ‘a depressingly routine affair that fails to replicate the joys of its source material’ and National Review said ‘it doesnโ€™t work at all.’

Some reviews did offer a measure of lukewarm praise, as in the New York Observer which argued: ‘Is it worth seeing? Sure, if you have nothing else to do and youโ€™ve already played all the games in the series.’

Overall however the critical reaction to the movie has been decidedly negative to the tune of a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Uncharted was in development so long that Mark Wahlberg was at one point supposed to play Tom’s role only to age out of it and wind up as his mentor.

‘I was attached for years and years to play Nathan Drake and now Iโ€™m playing Sully. Even with The Fighter, there was a ticking clock there. There was that biological clock. We gotta get going quickly,’ Mark told Collider a couple of years ago.

Although the film will not bow in America until this Friday, it opened in various other markets a week ago and the reviews have poured in.
