Lainey Wilson says she loves Beyoncé, and is happy she is joining the country music circuit.
‘I love it,’ the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, 31, told Extra on Sunday. ‘The more the merrier.
‘I’m like, again, it’s about that storytelling. It’s just about making people feel at home and everybody wants to feel at home.’
The Baskin, Louisiana native spoke with the outlet on the red carpet in Santa Monica, California at the People’s Choice Awards, where she performed and collected the honors for Female Country Artist of the year.
The Wildflowers and Wild Horses vocalist was asked by the outlet about a recent controversy involving country music stations adding Beyoncé to their playlists following her release of two new country singles: Texas Hold’ Em and 16 Carriages.

The Things a Man Oughta Know artist responded, ‘Hey, you know what? Everybody is going have something to say about everything.’
Wilson, who was seen in a Coors Light ad for the Super Bowl, added, ‘I’m like, I bet you wouldn’t say it to her face – I love Beyoncé.’
Wilson spoke out after country Maren Morris told E! News that she supported the creative crossover from the pop superstar.
Morris, 33, told the outlet: ‘I feel like she’s always been genre-less, but I think the leaning into country elements and sort of reclaiming country music back to Black people because they created the genre is such a statement.’
She added that ‘Rhiannon Giddens playing banjo on Texas Hold ‘Em … is such an amazing statement in itself.’
Beyoncé earlier this month released the singles in conjunction with a Verizon Super Bowl ad in which she said, ‘They ready, drop the new music,’
Beyoncé subsequently took to social media to advertise the March 29 release of a project called Act II, coming two years after her record Renaissance was called Act I: Renaissance.
The bold career move has attracted some negative attention: Azealia Banks said Beyoncé was setting herself up ‘to be ridiculed,’ while Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider received pushback after making a crude analogy about the pop superstar’s foray into the country genre.

She’s slated to hit the road in a few months on the Country’s Cool Again Tour, which has a start date of May 31 in Nashville.
