Vin Diesel Shines in the Fast X: A Wild and Absurd Ride from Start to Finish

Just four days after its release, the blockbuster film Fast X has grossed 36.2 billion Vietnamese dong in the Vietnamese market. The thrilling action scenes have always been the audienceโ€™s choice for weekend entertainment.

Fast X is part of the Fast and Furious franchise, known for its exciting and captivating action genre, particularly popular during the summer season.

Directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau, Fast X is an American action film released in 2023. The movie features a star-studded cast of Hollywood A-listers, including Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and John Cena.

The film serves as a sequel to Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga (2021) and ranks as the fourth most expensive film with a budget of around 340 million USD, according to The Wrap.

The storyline revolves around Dominic โ€œDomโ€ Toretto (Vin Diesel), who is in danger and must protect his teammates and family from Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), a new villain seeking revenge for his fatherโ€™s death.

Fast X features thrilling action scenes and iconic car races that have been missing in previous installments of the franchise.

The filmโ€™s music is appropriately arranged, creating an explosive emotional experience for viewers. It includes songs like โ€œSee You Again,โ€ โ€œLetโ€™s Ride,โ€ and the song โ€œAngel,โ€ co-written by Jimin (BTS).

However, the film has received mixed reviews from critics.

Fast X receives negative reviews

Fast X has received a rather poor rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a score of 54%, and many opinions suggesting that the film is forgettable.

BBC ran the headline โ€œRidiculous and Absurd from Start to Finishโ€ and explained, โ€œFast X is extremely noisy, crazy, and illogical.โ€ Variety commented, โ€œMost of the time, itโ€™s hard to understand why Dom and his team are doing what theyโ€™re doing.โ€ Screen Rant criticized the filmโ€™s screenplay for being โ€œinconsistent with itself.โ€

Jason Momoaโ€™s character, Dante, is considered a rare aspect of Fast X that brings a fresh feel, mainly due to the actorโ€™s performance. This character is likened to a slightly childish version of the Joker.

On the other hand, the main character, Dom, is described by Gamespot as โ€œa caricature of himself, a meme who doesnโ€™t realize heโ€™s a meme.โ€

CNN Entertainment also criticized Fast X, stating that it lacks narrative development and is solely focused on explosive action scenes, car races, intense chases, slapstick comedy, and unrealistic sequences.

As a result, the film is visually impressive, but its content is weak and fails to leave a lasting impression.

The Washington Post compared Fast X to a fast food meal, instant noodles. The initial scenes are grand and leave a strong impression, but as the film progresses, it lacks anything special beyond the silly humor.

Fast X was released on May 19th.

โ€œThis installment has the most decent storyline since part 7, and the action scenes still defy the laws of physics but with some restraint. Jason Momoaโ€™s villainous character is quite intriguing, a bit crazy, twisted, and reminiscent of the Joker. However, the excessive intertwining of old and new characters makes the film messy and disjointed.โ€
