Singer Lewis Capaldi has addressed his tough battle with mental health issues and revealed he has come a long way.
The 29 year old singer, who is performing on Strictly Come Dancing’s Blackpool special tonight (Sunday, November 23), had previously announced a hiatus from touring following his performance at the Glastonbury Festival in 2023, citing the need to adjust to the impact of his Tourette’s syndrome.
He couldn’t complete his performance then due to his struggle with Tourette syndrome symptoms, and has been open about his mental health, citing anxiety, panic attacks, and imposter syndrome as issues he deals with.
Lewis, who has been in therapy since 2023, has now released his new ‘Survive’ EP and song ‘The Day That I Die’. He explained the heartbreaking lyrics reflected the lowest point in his life as he addressed his health issues in a post to fans.

Lewis wrote on Instagram: “This is a tune I wrote about the lowest I’ve felt in my life and truth be told it feels a bit weird putting it out there for people to hear but I’m honestly the proudest I’ve ever been about a song with this one.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure being back releasing music and playing shows the last six months and I’m honestly so pleased to say I feel so far removed from the place I was when I wrote this song.”
He added: “Looking forward to much more next year, love ya all x.”
The new single features the heartbreaking lyrics: “On the day that I die/Tell my mother I was smiling/’Cause I know that she’ll be crying rivers wide.
“Tell my friends that it’s alright/And say I’m sorry that I never/Text or called or wrote more letters, shoulda tried.

“Let ’em know it ain’t goodbye/’Cause every door and every dawn/You know I’m only ever on the other side.”
Lewis made a surprise return to Glastonbury in 2025, performing an unannounced 35 minute set on the Pyramid Stage.
Speaking to fans at Worthy Farm, he expressed: “It’s so good to be back. I’m not going to say much up here today, because if I do, I think I will probably start crying.
“But it’s just amazing to be here with you all, and I can’t thank you all enough for coming out and coming and seeing me.
“Second time’s a charm on this one, everybody. It’s just a short set today, but I just wanted to come and kind of finish what I couldn’t finish the first time round.”
