At 80 years old, rock and pop legend Rod Stewart stands at a remarkable crossroads—having achieved career milestones few can match, and now embracing a sense of contentment that eluded him in earlier years.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Stewart reflected on a life full of music, family, and personal growth. Despite currently touring on his farewell tour One Last Time, retirement is not something he’s eager to pursue anytime soon.
“I still enjoy what I’m doing. I love it,” Stewart shared with a smile. “You can tell it’s written all over my face. Absolutely love it, but all things have to come to an end.”
With over 250 million records sold and an electrifying presence that has spanned decades, Stewart could easily rest on his laurels. Yet, he says he has no desire to slow down, nor does he feel there’s anything left undone.
“There’s no bucket list,” he said candidly. “I’ve done it all.”
Stewart, who has graced stages from Glastonbury to Las Vegas residencies, explained he’s satisfied with the highlights of his career. “I’ve done Glastonbury, so I’m happy,” he said, dismissing suggestions of performing at events like the Super Bowl or World Cup.
Instead, the singer is focused on projects close to his heart. He revealed he’s midway through recording an original album and is also planning a country album—showing his musical evolution is far from over.
Following his recent residency shows at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Stewart celebrated the anniversary of his Wolfie’s Whiskey brand in true rockstar style—pouring shots behind the bar and performing classics like “Maggie May” and “Ooh La La” with the house band.
Despite the festive atmosphere, Stewart has made a conscious choice to cut back on drinking in recent years to preserve his voice. “It’s been excellent for the last year or so, since I’ve cut back on the drinking,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of taking care of his instrument.
Away from the stage, Stewart leads a vibrant life fueled by his passions and family. He spoke fondly of his “absolutely gorgeous wife,” Penny Lancaster, whom he married in 2007, and his eight children: Sarah, Kimberly, Sean, Ruby, Renee, Liam, Alastair, and Aiden.
“I have hobbies. I work out. I have my sport,” Stewart said, adding that his love of football, particularly supporting Celtic Football Club, keeps him grounded and joyful. “My hobby is extraordinarily kind to me. All men should have a hobby.”
As Stewart prepares for his upcoming South American and European tour starting October 7, he exudes a quiet satisfaction—having achieved legendary status and now embracing the peace that comes from knowing he’s lived a full, meaningful life.
“‘All I need now is a good match and a good laugh,’” he chuckled, reflecting the easygoing spirit that continues to define him.
Rod Stewart’s story isn’t just one of musical triumph—it’s a testament to finding balance, cherishing family, and savoring life’s simple pleasures after decades in the spotlight.
