Suns Outperform Lakers in Fourth Encounter on Their Home Court

On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Lakers played the Phoenix Suns with the goal of winning their fourth game of the season against their division opponents and extending their winning streak to three games.

Despite being their fourth meeting, this was the first time that all five of the stars—Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James—had played together. Ultimately, the Suns prevailed 127-109 to take the lead in a convincing manner.

After the Suns made back-to-back three-pointers to start the game, the Lakers answered with seven in a row to grab the lead.

However, Phoenix was on fire early on as Booker and Beal each made two consecutive triples to grab a 17–9 lead. However, the Lakers came back strong with five straight points during a timeout.

Taurean Prince scored eight points in the first eight minutes for Los Angeles, but the offense was unable to sustain its lead and even extended it to double digits when Booker was on a roll.

The Lakers were behind 36-25 at the end of the first quarter, but Austin Reaves managed to break through late in the quarter with a corner 3-pointer.

With D’Angelo Russell completing a three-point play and Jarred Vanderbilt hitting a corner three to cut the deficit to six, the Lakers got their offensive game going early in the second quarter.

However, with Christian Wood sidelined, Jaxson Hayes filled in as L.A.’s backup center. However, Hayes struggled mightily, picking up four fouls in only four minutes, which allowed the Suns to regain control.

For the majority of the second quarter, the Lakers were struggling to generate much offensive momentum, even with James and Davis battling to keep up with Booker. After Durant beat the buzzer, the Suns went into the halftime locker room ahead 66-52.

While the Suns continued to extend their lead, James attempted to get the Lakers going with a three-point play to start the third quarter.

On Thursday, the league saw blowouts everywhere, and this one was no exception. The Lakers were unable to purchase an outside shooter, and Booker, Beal, and Durant appeared to be the big three the Suns had envisaged when they acquired them.

Halfway in the third quarter, the Suns increased their lead to thirty and kept adding to it, putting the game out of reach early. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers reserves gave it their all, but Darvin Ham pulled his starters early and ended the game.
