SELENA Gomez proudly showed off her kidney transplant scar on Thursday, telling fans she’s feeling more “confident” than ever.
The singer – who underwent the procedure in 2017 to treat her lupus – posed in a blue swimsuit and make a statement about body confidence.
Showing off the scar on the inside of her right leg, Selena wrote: “When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar.
“I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.
“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through…and I’m proud of that.”
Selena, who models a La’Mariette one piece in the photo, went on to congratulate the brand’s co-founder Teresa Marie Mingus in her caption.
She added: “T – Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that…all bodies are beautiful.”
Selena required a kidney transplant in 2017 after the pop star contracted lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack healthy parts of itself.
Her good friend and actress Francia Raisa donated a kidney to her – but complications in surgery meant Selena had to undergo yet another emergency procedure to keep her new kidney in place.
Francia told W: “A few hours after our surgery, I woke up and had a text from her that said, ‘I’m really scared.’ My kidney was very active, and when it turned I broke an artery.
“They had to take her [Selena] into emergency surgery and get a vein from her leg and build a new artery to keep my kidney in place. She could have died.”
Selena later said: “She [Francia] gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
On the Today show, Francia revealed: “[Selena] goes, ‘I don’t know what to do, the [donor wait] list is seven to 10 years long. And it just vomited out of me. I was like, ‘Of course I’ll get tested.’”
Selena said: “She lived with me in this interesting time where my kidneys were just done.
“That was it. I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life.
“The thought of asking somebody to do that was really difficult for me.
“She volunteered and did it – and let alone somebody wanting to volunteer, it is incredibly difficult to find a match.
“The fact that she was a match, I mean, that’s unbelievable. That’s not real.”
