Dwayne Johnson’s Nostalgic Throwback: Sharing a Photo of Himself at 11 in His ‘Dad’s Wrestling Trunks’

Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt throwback photo from 1983. In the picture, a young Johnson can be seen wearing his father’s wrestling trunks, boots, jacket, and championship belt. He reminisced about his childhood dream of becoming a pro wrestling champion, indicating his admiration for his father’s wrestling career. Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson, was a Canadian professional wrestler who achieved success in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) alongside Tony Atlas as part of the first African American tag team to win the World Tag Team Championship.

Earlier this year, Rocky Johnson passed away at the age of 75, prompting Dwayne Johnson to pay tribute to his father on Instagram. In his post, Johnson expressed his love for his father and the pain he felt at his sudden loss. Despite the sadness, he acknowledged that pain is temporary and will eventually subside.

In addition to the throwback photo, Dwayne Johnson also shared another childhood picture from his school photo day. He humorously commented on his appearance, mentioning his buck teeth, aloha shirt, and matted down afro. Johnson playfully predicted that he would grow up to become the “Sexiest Man Alive,” a title he was awarded by PEOPLE in 2016.

Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming NBC comedy series, “Young Rock,” inspired by his own life, is set to premiere soon. The show will delve into his childhood and formative years, featuring actors portraying him at different ages. Adrian Groulx will play Johnson at age 10, Bradley Constant at age 15, and Uli Latukefu from ages 18 to 20 when he played football at the University of Miami.

The series will also include portrayals of Johnson’s mother, Ata Johnson, his late father, Rocky Johnson, and his grandmother, Lia Maivia, played by Stacey Leilua, Joseph Lee Anderson, and Ana Tuisila, respectively. “Young Rock” will be filmed in Australia over the next 18 months, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
