Megan Fox has been in some shocking, blood-involving headlines since she started dating Machine Gun Kelly in 2020. Recently, the two have been rumored to have broken up but reconciled after going on couples therapy. MGK even came to support her at her Sports Illustrated cover event in May 2023. While there hasn’t been major news about the engaged couple, Fox has been on her own thing — promoting her debut poetry book called Pretty Boys Are Poisonous. Fans have been supportive of her, but they’re still wondering what ever happened to her acting career.

After her breakout role in Transformers, the mother of three has seemingly been blacklisted from Hollywood, which she also blames for giving her body image issues. Here’s what’s really going on with Fox’s professional life these days.

Was Megan Fox Blacklisted From Hollywood?

Fox’s comments on Transformers’ director, Michael Bay, might have ruined her career. “He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad man reputation,” she told British magazine Wonderland in 2009 (per Looper). “He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is.”

She also told Entertainment Weekly that the movie didn’t hone her acting skills. “I can’t s*** on this movie because it did give me a career and open all these doors for me,” she said of the first installment. “But I don’t want to blow smoke up people’s a**. People are well aware that this is not a movie about acting.”

Fox didn’t appear in the third film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Bay later explained to GQ that when they started reuniting the cast, the actress “was in a different world, on her BlackBerry. You gotta stay focused. And you know, the Hitler thing. Steven [Spielberg] said, ‘Fire her right now.’” Spielberg denied Bay’s claims. Fox’s reps also told People, “It was her decision not to return.”

Is Megan Fox Still Acting?

In 2021, Washington Post wrote, “The Megan Fox renaissance is here. It’s long overdue.” At that time, she had three films coming out: Till Death, Midnight in the Switchgrᴀss co-starring MGK, and Big Gold Brick. When asked why she only had a few projects in the last years, she told the outlet, “I always choose things just based on feeling.”

“Sometimes it’s because I feel like where the movie is shooting is going to be significant to me for some reason, or something about it is going to be significant for my life,” she continued. She went on to clarify that she doesn’t regret the flop-turned-cult-classic, Jennifer’s Body. “Jennifer’s Body is iconic, and I love that movie,” Fox said of her 2009 film.

“I didn’t want to do that movie an injustice by doing something that was similar but not as good,” she added. “This movie is art, but when it came out, nobody was saying that.” She then admitted that she was in a “dark” place during her Transformers and controversy and that she “was never really established as having been talented” back then.

It wasn’t until New Girl that people thought she had some comedic range. “People were surprised that I was funny at all,” she recalled. “More than being overlooked for my ability to handle comedy sometimes, I’ve always been surprised by how easy it was for people to overlook that I’m relatively intelligent. I was like, how does that get so lost when there’s ridiculous amounts of material that can educate you otherwise?”

What Is Megan Fox’s Book About?

Fox recently announced that her book, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous is now available for pre-order. It’s set to come out on November 7 this year. In an Instagram post, she said that the poems “were written in an attempt to excise the illness that had taken root in me because of my silence.”

“I’ve spent my entire life keeping the secrets of men,” she continued. “My body aches from carrying the weight of their sins. My freedom lives in these pages and I hope that my words can inspire others to take back their happiness and their idenтιтy by using their voice to illuminate what’s been buried, but not forgotten, in the darkness.”

MGK showed his support in the comments, writing, “Proud of you” with the flame emoji. Fox’s publisher, Gallery Books, said that the actress showcases her “wicked humor” in her “heartbreaking” and “dark” poetry which “chronicles all the ways in which we fit ourselves into the shape of the ones we love, even if it means losing ourselves in the process.”

The Simon & Schuster division also described the book as a “powerful debut from one of the most well-known women of our time.” They said: “Turn the page, bite the apple, and sink your teeth into the most deliciously compelling and addictive books you’ll read all year.”
